Is Sim short for “simulation”?

Absolutely. I use code to simulate solutions for altruism.

In simple English?

Technology on the backend is a bunch of ones and zeroes. Those digits simulate a real-world front-end experience for the user. My job is to code the backend in a way that results in the optimal intended front-end usage. Which, in the case of Hatch, is to make giving more predictable by enriching and completing an org’s data.

What got you into software development?

Between our work desktops, mobile phones, and tablets we spend the vast majority of our day on some sort of device. Each device runs on software. What better way to have a positive impact on society than by contributing positive software to the world?

What is the difference between a development officer and a software developer?

Development officers help develop an organization via fundraising, while software developers help develop products and tools for humanity. As part of the Hatch team, I guess I’m a little bit of both: a software developer building products to empower fundraising, which makes me a development officer by extension.

Outside of Hatch, what software would you like to develop to better society?
